The Moon and Saturn will share the same right ascension, with the Moon passing 3°36' to the north of Saturn. The Moon will be 26 days old.
At around the same time, the two objects will also make a close approach, technically called an appulse.
From Ashburn (click to change), the pair will be difficult to observe as they will appear no higher than 19° above the horizon. They will be visible in the dawn sky, rising at 04:39 (EDT) – 2 hours and 43 minutes before the Sun – and reach an altitude of 19° above the south-eastern horizon before fading from view as dawn breaks at around 07:03.
The Moon will be at mag -10.3, and Saturn at mag 0.4, both in the constellation Ophiuchus.
The pair will be too widely separated to fit within the field of view of a telescope, but will be visible to the naked eye or through a pair of binoculars.
