From South El Monte , Collinder 39 is difficult to observe as it will appear no higher than 14° above the horizon. It is visible in the dawn sky, rising at 02:45 (PDT) – 2 hours and 59 minutes before the Sun – and reaching an altitude of 14° above the north-eastern horizon before fading from view as dawn breaks at around 05:02.
