From South El Monte , NGC1023 is visible all night. It will become visible at around 18:59 (PDT), 22° above your north-eastern horizon, as dusk fades to darkness. It will then reach its highest point in the sky at 00:49, 84° above your northern horizon. It will be lost to dawn twilight at around 06:09, 27° above your north-western horizon.
