Special General Meeting, 2009 March 25

held at Royal Astronomical Society, Burlington House, Piccadilly, London SE1

Roger Pickard, President

Ron Johnson, Hazel Collett and Nick James, Secretaries

The President opened the Special General Meeting of the 119th Session and invited Mrs Hazel Collett, Meetings Secretary, to read the minutes of the previous meeting, which were approved by the audience and duly signed. Dr David Boyd, Treasurer, was then invited to address the Meeting. Dr Boyd reported that the finances of the Association were, in the view of Council, in a healthy state, although the current economic climate made it difficult to make forecasts for the coming year. Dr Boyd reported that Council had discussed the need to strike a compromise between keeping the cost of subscription at a reasonable rate, whilst also ensuring the future stability of the Association's finances. He reported that Council had concluded that a modest 2.4% rise in the ordinary rate of subscription, from £42 to £43, together with a pro rata rise in the reduced subscription rates, represented the best compromise. Dr Boyd invited questions concerning this proposed rise, but there were none. He then formally proposed that the Meeting adopt Council's recommendations, and this motion was seconded and carried nem con.

There being no further business, the President adjourned the Meeting, and the fifth Ordinary Meeting of the Session followed.
