What can I see in the night sky?

by Dominic Ford

This page lists some of the brightest sights which you can see in the night sky from Ashburn (change location).

All of the planets listed here can be seen with the naked eye, with the exception of Uranus and Neptune. Most of the other objects can be seen with a pair of modest binoculars. Star clusters and galaxies are listed in order of decreasing brightness, with the easiest objects at the top.

By clicking and dragging the wheel, you can turn it to place different green compass points at the bottom. If you stand outside and look in the direction you have chosen, the stars at the bottom of the wheel will match the ones you will see above the horizon in that direction.
