Conjunction of the Moon and Venus

The Moon and Venus will share the same right ascension, with the Moon passing 28' to the north of Venus. The Moon will be 2 days old.

At around the same time, the two objects will also make a close approach, technically called an appulse.

From South El Monte however, the pair will not be observable – they will reach their highest point in the sky during daytime and will be no higher than 6° above the horizon at dusk.

The Moon will be at mag -8.6, and Venus at mag -3.9, both in the constellation Leo.

The pair will be close enough to fit within the field of view of a telescope, but will also be visible to the naked eye or through a pair of binoculars.
