Conjunction of the Moon and Saturn

The Moon and Saturn will share the same right ascension, with the Moon passing 1°40' to the north of Saturn. The Moon will be 3 days old.

At around the same time, the two objects will also make a close approach, technically called an appulse.

From Cambridge , the pair will be difficult to observe as they will appear no higher than 12° above the horizon. They will become visible at around 19:40 (EDT), 12° above your south-western horizon, as dusk fades to darkness. They will then sink towards the horizon, setting 1 hour and 50 minutes after the Sun at 20:55.

The Moon will be at mag -10.6, and Saturn at mag 0.6, both in the constellation Virgo.

The pair will be too widely separated to fit within the field of view of a telescope, but will be visible to the naked eye or through a pair of binoculars.
