Conjunction of the Moon and Mercury

The Moon and Mercury will share the same right ascension, with the Moon passing 3°45' to the north of Mercury. The Moon will be 28 days old.

From Cambridge , the pair will be visible in the dawn sky, rising at 04:53 (EDT) – 1 hour and 27 minutes before the Sun – and reaching an altitude of 11° above the eastern horizon before fading from view as dawn breaks at around 06:00.

The Moon will be at mag -8.7, and Mercury at mag -0.8, both in the constellation Leo.

The pair will be too widely separated to fit within the field of view of a telescope, but will be visible to the naked eye or through a pair of binoculars.
