Conjunction of the Moon and Venus

The Moon and Venus will share the same right ascension, with the Moon passing 20' to the south of Venus. The Moon will be 3 days old.

At around the same time, the two objects will also make a close approach, technically called an appulse.

From Fairfield , the pair will be difficult to observe as they will appear no higher than 9° above the horizon. They will become visible at around 19:26 (EST), 9° above your south-western horizon, as dusk fades to darkness. They will then sink towards the horizon, setting 1 hour and 18 minutes after the Sun at 20:27.

The Moon will be at mag -10.6, and Venus at mag -4.5, both in the constellation Virgo.

The pair will be close enough to fit within the field of view of a telescope, but will also be visible to the naked eye or through a pair of binoculars.
