Conjunction of the Moon and Mercury

The Moon and Mercury will share the same right ascension, with the Moon passing 7°13' to the south of Mercury. The Moon will be 29 days old.

From Cambridge , the pair will be visible in the dawn sky, rising at 05:25 (EST) – 1 hour and 31 minutes before the Sun – and reaching an altitude of 11° above the eastern horizon before fading from view as dawn breaks at around 06:33.

The Moon will be at mag -8.5, and Mercury at mag -0.5, both in the constellation Virgo.

The pair will be too widely separated to fit within the field of view of a telescope or pair of binoculars, but will be visible to the naked eye.
