Jupiter and Mars will share the same right ascension, with Jupiter passing 29' to the south of Mars.

At around the same time, the two objects will also make a close approach, technically called an appulse.

From South El Monte , the pair will be visible in the dawn sky, rising at 00:59 (PDT) and reaching an altitude of 58° above the eastern horizon before fading from view as dawn breaks at around 05:54.

Jupiter will be at mag -2.2, and Mars at mag 0.8, both in the constellation Gemini.

The pair will be close enough to fit within the field of view of a telescope, but will also be visible to the naked eye or through a pair of binoculars.
