Conjunction of the Moon and Mars

The Moon and Mars will share the same right ascension, with the Moon passing 3°10' to the north of Mars. The Moon will be 25 days old.

At around the same time, the two objects will also make a close approach, technically called an appulse.

From Columbus , the pair will be visible in the dawn sky, rising at 02:00 (EDT) and reaching an altitude of 43° above the eastern horizon before fading from view as dawn breaks at around 06:01.

The Moon will be at mag -11.2, and Mars at mag 1.0, both in the constellation Taurus.

The pair will be too widely separated to fit within the field of view of a telescope, but will be visible to the naked eye or through a pair of binoculars.
