The Moon and Mars will share the same right ascension, with the Moon passing 14' to the north of Mars. The Moon will be 5 days old.

At around the same time, the two objects will also make a close approach, technically called an appulse.

From Fairfield , the pair will become visible at around 17:18 (EST), 36° above your south-western horizon, as dusk fades to darkness. They will then sink towards the horizon, setting at 21:23.

The Moon will be at mag -11.1, and Mars at mag 0.9, both in the constellation Aquarius.

The pair will be close enough to fit within the field of view of a telescope, but will also be visible to the naked eye or through a pair of binoculars.
