The planets Mars and Neptune will make a close approach, passing within a mere 2.1 arcminutes of each other.
From Fairfield , the pair will be visible in the evening sky, becoming accessible around 17:35 (EST), 41° above your southern horizon, as dusk fades to darkness. They will then reach their highest point in the sky at 17:47, 41° above your southern horizon. They will continue to be observable until around 21:15, when they sink below 21° above your south-western horizon.
Mars will be at mag 0.1; and Neptune will be at mag 7.9. Both objects will lie in the constellation Aquarius.
They will be close enough to fit within the field of view of a telescope, but will also be visible through a pair of binoculars.
At around the same time, the pair will also share the same right ascension – called a conjunction.
