Conjunction of the Moon and Saturn

The Moon and Saturn will share the same right ascension, with the Moon passing 3°02' to the north of Saturn. The Moon will be 2 days old.

At around the same time, the two objects will also make a close approach, technically called an appulse.

From Fairfield however, the pair will not be observable – they will reach their highest point in the sky during daytime and will be no higher than 8° above the horizon at dusk.

The Moon will be at mag -9.9, and Saturn at mag 0.9, both in the constellation Leo.

The pair will be too widely separated to fit within the field of view of a telescope, but will be visible to the naked eye or through a pair of binoculars.
