Conjunction of the Moon and Mars

The Moon and Mars will share the same right ascension, with the Moon passing 43" to the south of Mars. The Moon will be 15 days old.

At around the same time, the two objects will also make a close approach, technically called an appulse.

From Cambridge , the pair will be visible between 20:11 and 05:05. They will become accessible at around 20:11, when they rise to an altitude of 7° above your south-eastern horizon. They will reach their highest point in the sky at 00:38, 35° above your southern horizon. They will become inaccessible at around 05:05 when they sink below 7° above your south-western horizon.

The Moon will be at mag -12.5, and Mars at mag -1.7, both in the constellation Virgo.

The pair will be close enough to fit within the field of view of a telescope, but will also be visible to the naked eye or through a pair of binoculars.
