Saturn and Mars will share the same right ascension, with Saturn passing 1°28' to the south of Mars.
At around the same time, the two objects will also make a close approach, technically called an appulse.
From South El Monte , the pair will become visible at around 17:37 (PDT), 37° above your south-western horizon, as dusk fades to darkness. They will then sink towards the horizon, setting at 21:03.
Saturn will be at mag 1.0, and Mars at mag 1.0, both in the constellation Aquarius.
The pair will be too widely separated to fit within the field of view of a telescope, but will be visible to the naked eye or through a pair of binoculars.
