The planets Saturn and Mars will make a close approach, passing within a mere 54.2 arcminutes of each other.
From South El Monte , the pair will be visible in the dawn sky, rising at 00:57 (PDT) and reaching an altitude of 62° above the south-eastern horizon before fading from view as dawn breaks at around 06:10.
Saturn will be at mag 0.1; and Mars will be at mag 1.0. Both objects will lie in the constellation Cancer.
They will be a little too widely separated to fit comfortably within the field of view of a telescope, but will be visible to the naked eye or through a pair of binoculars.
At around the same time, the pair will also share the same right ascension – called a conjunction.
