Mars and 134340 Pluto will share the same right ascension, with Mars passing 2°18' to the north of 134340 Pluto.

From South El Monte , the pair will be visible in the evening sky, becoming accessible around 18:10 (PDT), 25° above your eastern horizon, as dusk fades to darkness. They will then reach their highest point in the sky at 23:07, 78° above your southern horizon. They will continue to be observable until around 04:20, when they sink below 21° above your western horizon.

Mars will be at mag -1.2, and 134340 Pluto at mag 15.4, both in the constellation Gemini.

The pair will be too widely separated to fit within the field of view of a telescope, but will be visible through a pair of binoculars.

A graph of the angular separation between Mars and 134340 Pluto around the time of closest approach is available here.

The positions of the two objects at the moment of conjunction will be as follows:

Object Right Ascension Declination Constellation Magnitude Angular Size
Mars 07h57m10s 25°11'N Gemini -1.2 14"1
134340 Pluto 07h57m10s 22°53'N Gemini 15.4 0"0

The coordinates above are given in J2000.0. The pair will be at an angular separation of 167° from the Sun, which is in Capricornus at this time of year.
