Close approach of the Moon and Saturn

The Moon and Saturn will make a close approach, passing within 3°32' of each other. The Moon will be 24 days old.

From Fairfield , the pair will be visible in the dawn sky, rising at 01:07 (EST) and reaching an altitude of 50° above the eastern horizon before fading from view as dawn breaks at around 05:47.

The Moon will be at mag -11.1 in Orion; and Saturn will be at mag -0.1 in Gemini.

They will be too widely separated to fit within the field of view of a telescope, but will be visible to the naked eye or through a pair of binoculars.

At around the same time, the pair will also share the same right ascension – called a conjunction.
