Close approach of Saturn and Uranus

The planets Saturn and Uranus will make a close approach, passing within a mere 19.6 arcminutes of each other.

From South El Monte , the pair will be visible in the evening sky, becoming accessible around 18:24 (PDT), 37° above your eastern horizon, as dusk fades to darkness. They will then reach their highest point in the sky at 22:18, 77° above your southern horizon. They will continue to be observable until around 03:33, when they sink below 20° above your western horizon.

Saturn will be at mag -0.3; and Uranus will be at mag 5.4. Both objects will lie in the constellation Gemini.

They will be close enough to fit within the field of view of a telescope, but will also be visible through a pair of binoculars.

At around the same time, the pair will also share the same right ascension – called a conjunction.
