Venus and Mars will share the same right ascension, with Venus passing 2°16' to the south of Mars.
At around the same time, the two objects will also make a close approach, technically called an appulse.
From Columbus , the pair will be visible in the dawn sky, rising at 03:21 (EST) – 3 hours and 42 minutes before the Sun – and reaching an altitude of 31° above the eastern horizon before fading from view as dawn breaks at around 06:19.
Venus will be at mag -4.2, and Mars at mag 1.6, both in the constellation Cancer.
The pair will be too widely separated to fit within the field of view of a telescope, but will be visible to the naked eye or through a pair of binoculars.
