The Moon and M44 will make a close approach, passing within a mere 31.8 arcminutes of each other. The Moon will be 2 days old.
From Fairfield however, the pair will not be observable – they will reach their highest point in the sky during daytime and will be no higher than 1° above the horizon at dusk.
The Moon will be at mag -9.4; and M44 will be at mag 3.1. Both objects will lie in the constellation Cancer.
They will be a little too widely separated to fit comfortably within the field of view of a telescope, but will be visible through a pair of binoculars.
